CM leads interfaith prayer to curb virus

Chief minister N Biren Singh on Monday participated in an interfaith prayer held under his supervision to seek divine healing and protection from the new coronavirus at the western gate of the sacred Kangla Fort here.
Archbishop Dominic Lumon and priests from Shree Shree Govindaji Temple Board, All Manipur Christian Organisation, Jamiat-Ul-Ulema, Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board, Tingkao Ragwang Chapriak, Giani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, Shree Digambar Jain Samaj and Kabui Poupei Chapriak Phuam prayed to the Almighty for healing and protection of the state and the world from Covid-19.Forest, environment and climate change minister Awangbow Newmai, education minister S Rajen, TA and Hills minister Vungzagin Valte, CAF and PD minister Th Satyabrata, MPs Leishemba Sanajaoba and Dr RK Ranjan, and MLAs also took part in the prayer session.
The prayer programme began with a one-minute silence in remembrance of all those who have died due to the pandemic.
Speaking on the occasion, chief minister Biren noted that people usually pray to the Almighty for His blessings when they go through hard times as it gives them mental peace and hope.
Stating that the world has been badly affected by the pandemic and Manipur is no exception, the CM said that the total number of deaths in the state is now over 800 and the number of active cases has also already crossed the 9000-mark.As such, N Biren said that he felt the necessity of an interfaith prayer for all religions as it would bring unity and oneness amongst different communities to jointly fight the pandemic with spiritual strength.
Stating that the high number of daily positive cases was due to increase in testing capacity, N Biren Singh informed that 8000 to 9000 samples are tested daily and the positivity rate has reduced to around 8 per cent while mortality rate is also steadily coming down.
Regarding the unwanted incident that happened a few days back in the ICU Ward of JNIMS Hospital, the chief minister said that such misunderstanding and miscommunication between hospital staff and patient parties happen sometimes even during normal days.
However, the matter is being investigated so that such incidents do not recur, he added.
Meanwhile, in connection with the interfaith prayer programme, Waiton Covid-19 Task Force (Youth Development Council, Youth Development Association, Local Development Association and Prince Club) in collaboration with BJP Kisan Morcha VP and Medical Cell convener Dr Ksh Kala held a prayer meet at Puthiba community hall on Monday.
