Imphal, June 07 2021:
While strayed animals are reportedly ill-treated by many, there are some who take care of such animals.
One such instance came to light on June 6 when chief minister N Biren came to know about a Slow Loris (Yong Ekhaithibi) being taken care of by one Chingkham Sundar Singh, son of Nongyai Singh of Yairipok Top Chintha.
The boy had found the animal on the road side in the evening of June 4 when he was returning home.
In recognition of the commendable act of taking care of the strayed, stressed and sick Slow Loris by Chingkham Sundar during the pandemic, the chief minister rewarded the boy through the divisional forest officer, Central Forest Division, Mantripukhri to encourage him and other young people in the state to inculcate in them the love for wildlife, forests and natural surroundings.
Sundar had found the animal laying immobile and sick.
He picked up the animal and took care of it to bring its health to normal.
Not knowing whom to hand over the animal, he used his social media account to attract attention of people working for safety of wildlife.
It was from this platform that the chief minister took cognisance and directed the forest officials to do the needful.
The forest officials collected the animal and shifted it to the animal health facility at Manipur Zoological Garden, Iroisemba where it is presently under the care of the veterinary doctor.
The incidences of detection of stray Slow Loris are increasing in the recent past.
During last week, four such cases have been reported where Slow Loris were found in human habitation area and they were handed over to forest officials who would thoroughly checked the health condition of the animals and release them in the wild if found healthy or if sick are in kept in the Animal Care Unit of the Manipur Zoological Garden, Iroisemba.
