Imphal, July 09 2022:
Whether examiners will give 100 marks in literature subjects remained as a big question among students of Manipur for the past many years but this year's results of High School Leaving Examination (HSLC) conducted by the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BSEM) have provided the answer to this question with several students getting 100 out 100 marks in literature subjects including English.
This year's HSLC examination results have shown that getting cent percent mark in literature subjects is possible if any candidate did well without missing coma, semi-colon and other punctuation marks at proper places while writing their answers.
Several students have showcased their talents in literature subjects by getting 100 marks when the results of the examination were declared on Friday.
Though it is not their mother language, two students received 100 marks in English and they are Geneva Khangenbam of BK Golden Academy, Kumbi and Md Safiqe Afridi of Wisdom Foundation, Khangabok.
The results also showed that altogether 11 students culled 100 marks in tribal dialect, Anal language while four students got 99 out of 100 marks in state's major language, Meetei Mayek.
Significantly, over 150 candidates scored cent per cent mark in mathematics.
When contacted in this regard, an examiner of BSEM told The People's Chronicle that it has been a common disbelief among students of Manipur that getting 100 marks in literature subject is not possible.
However, this notion needs to be removed now as it is possible to get 100 out of 100 marks in literature subjects if students do well.
At one point of time, there was a trend among examiners of Manipur giving minimal mark.
This deprived students of the state in getting admission to schools under boards and councils of other states and impeded them from taking part in various national level competitions.
In view of this, examiners of the state have started giving maximum mark and even full mark if students wrote answers correctly.
The examiner also informed that there is nothing suspicious in giving 100 marks in literature subjects just like science and commerce subjects if any student wrote answer properly and in the right concept.
According to the examiner who refused to be named, it was a veiy proud moment when two students got 100 marks in English subject.
Though English is not their mother language, the students wrote their answers with precision and in the right concept without grammatical error and hence got 100 marks, the examiner reasoned.
