Imphal, October 31 2013:
A community which is idling, sans discipline cannot stand or face world competition, said MLA Y Surchandra Singh at a Seminar on Look East Policy held today.
The said seminar on "Emerging business opportunities in Manipur with reference to India's Look East Policy" was organised by Shenmitlon Weekly (a weekly journal) at Manipur Press Club here.
Social activist Dhanabir Laishram, as one of the resource persons at the seminar, said that Look East Policy was formed in 1992, however, it is not fully implemented till date.
The policy will benefit the people of the State; the coming of Trans Asian Highway, International Airport will give jobs to many unemployed persons, would become the case of Bihar that even if there is train, the people there buy 'Uncle Chips' at Rs 10 while the potatoes produced by them are sold at Rs 2 per kilo, Laishram opined.
He then said, the Look East Policy might improve the bond between Manipur and the South East Asian countries, though it is not likely that more development or benefits will be seen.
The Government should try to take advantages in medical industry, education and tourism from the Policy, he suggested adding that it should leave the act of only speaking nicely instead of practically doing.
Until and unless our minds are developed, the State will not progress.
Another resource person of the seminar, Assistant Professor of Manipur University, Chinglen Meisnam wondered if the Govt would either nurture the entrepreneurs or use them to take benefits under Look East Policy; or without making it related to development, would it claim to do work by collecting taxes after doing privatisation.
He went on to say, would the Govt's plans or policies be fruitful when despite its existence, Planning Board in Manipur fails to perform.
Let's stop playing some fire crackers calling it Sangai Festival, or diverting Kut festival into beauty contest.
MLA of Kakching A/C, Y Surchandra Singh as presidium member of today's seminar, asserted that if we are to take part in the competition of the world, punctuality and commitment is a must.
There is nothing to feel happy or shamelessness at the people's saying 'Meitei pung' as it is said in the negative sense.
