Imphal, October 31 2013:
Sanjen-thong, one of the two crucial links connecting Imphal West and Imphal East districts, the other being Minuthong, would be constructed anew by PWD.
Due process for reconstruction of Sanjenthong has been initiated under the initiatives of the Chief Minister in view of its dilapidated condition.
Estimated cost of the proposed bridge is Rs 2684.28 lakh, according to an official source.
The new Sanjenthong bridge is designed by Project Consulting India, Delhi.
Steel would form major components of the upper portion of the bridge so that the bridge can be completed in a relatively shorter period.
The four-lane bridge would be 60 metres long (approximately) and it would be curvy in shape which means there would not be any supporting pillar in the middle.
The Superintending Engineer, National Highway Circle, PWD has already issued a notification inviting tender bids for selection of work agency/agencies, informed the official.
Notably, in view of the dilapidated condition of the existing Sanjenthong bridge, the State Government had sent a project profile to the NEC for constructing the bridge anew with 100 per cent funding from the Non-Lapsable Central Pool Resources but the same proposal was turned down by NEC.
