Imphal, October 31 2013:
Post mortem examination of the two cows which reportedly died after consuming cauliflowers at Keinou Awang Leikai was conducted today at Veterinary Hospital, Sanjen-thong.
An official source in Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department informed that the two dead cows were brought to the veterinary hospital by Bishnupur Police after registering a case.
Necessary samples have also been collected from the two dead cows.
The samples would be sent to the North East Regional Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, Guwahati.
Police would be provided the post mortem report after receiving results of the laboratory test from Guwahati.
The cabbages which are suspected to be responsible for the cows' death were reportedly brought from Khoijuman.
Meanwhile a team of experts from Central Agriculture University, Iroishemba visited Khoijuman village today and collected reports about cauliflowers cultivated there.
They team also collected cauliflower samples for laboratory tests.
The cauliflowers cultivated in the particular farm were treated with Nagata which contains Ethion and Cypernuthrin but it would not cause any harm to human if the cauliflowers are consumed 20 to 25 days after they were treated with Nagata, the experts said.
Cypernuthrin is a chemical belonging to synthetic pyrethroid group and is synthesised from pyrethram from Chandramukhi flowers.
Mosquito repellent coils as well as sprays contain this chemical.
Whether the two cows died because of eating the particular cauliflowers or due to some other reasons would be known after post mortem examination, they said.
