TC wants PR to save State

Imphal, October 31 2013: Taking serious note of recent spurt in bomb explosions in the capital city areas and loss of precious lives, Trinamool Congress State unit president Kim Gangte opined that imposition of President's Rule has become inevitable to save the people of Manipur from further miseries.

Conveying the party's solidarity to family members of those slain or injured in the series of blasts during a media briefing at the Hotel Excellency office of TC State unit today, Kim Gangte demanded clarification from all concerned on how triggering blasts at public places and claiming lives of innocent people could be justified.

Reminding that the common people cannot remain within the safety of homes as they are struggling to meet both ends meet, the former MP also appealed to all concerned to refrain from such inhumane act in the future.

Noting strong security personnel provision for Ministers, MLAs and top officials in Manipur and wondering whether the State Government has no effective mechanism to protect the common people, she questioned if the Congress-led UPA Government is not aware about unwanted incidents taking place at alarming rate in the heart of the capital city.

Conveying that indifferent attitude of the UPA-II towards the people of Manipur is highly deplorable, Kim Gangte also regretted that the O ibobi Singh-led Congress Government is not concerned about safety of the people of Manipur but gloating that the Congress has a commanding majority in the assembly.

She also expressed confidence that putting Manipur under President's Rule might be one of the most effective means to protect live and properties of the people of Manipur.

With regard to trafficking of illegal drug in the State, the State unit president opined that focus need to be on pulling up the actual drug traders/owners as arrest of agents will not have the desired impact to shield the younger generation from falling prey to drug abuse.

Noting that inspite of seizing huge quantity of illegal drugs by law enforcement agencies there is no clarity or public announcement where the seized contraband items are being kept or disposed off, if any, Kim prevailed upon the Government that without transparency in governance or convincing commitment it would be futile to expect cooperation from the general public in tackling the problems of illegal drug smuggling and substance abuse.

Accusing the ruling Congress party of misusing Bharat Nirmal programmes as election campaign for the forthcoming Parliamentary elections, she reminded that Bharat Nirmal programme is a Government of India initiative which the Congress party cannot lay claim.

Disagreeing with the Congress party concept that National Food Security Act and Land Acquisition Act would be beneficial for the underprivileged section of the society, the State Trinamool chief also maintained that these legislation were actually enacted as part of election campaign agenda of the Congress.

At a time when the PDS system is practically non existent in the hill areas and the hill people deprived of various welfare programmes under the tribal welfare schemes it would be premature to expect that the food security act could be implemented smoothly or effectively in the State, Kim claimed.
