Imphal, April 18 2023: A team of Kangpokpi police arrested four persons including a woman allegedly involved in an inter-State drug ring from different places along with 1.018 kilograms of brown sugar yesterday.

The four persons have been identified as Asheibam Thoibi (38) w/o Nongthongbam Premananda of Huikap Mayai Leikai, Md Abdul Matalip (40) s/o Kashim of Thoubal Moijing Wangma Taba Mayai Leikai, Narendra Mahawar (39) s/o Mandanlal Mahawar staying at Thangal Keithel and Md Abdul Nazir (33) s/o Md Abdul Rahim of Lilong Turel Ahanbi Khongnang Makhong, as per a senior official of Kangpokpi police .

Reportedly, Kangpokpi police carried out a verification drive at its station checkpost on receiving information about the movement of some drug smugglers along Imphal-Dimapur road, during which one Tata Winger was also stopped.

Saying that two occupants of the passenger vehicle namely Thoibi and Md Abdul Matalip, who behaved suspiciously, were examined separately, the police continued that it was Thoibi who disclosed about the presence of the drug in her backpack.

It is reported that the backpack was searched in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and a transparent polythene bag containing 1.018 kilograms of brown sugar was found.

Both of them were arrested along with the drug while the Tata Winger was confiscated, added the senior police officer.

The police team learnt about the involvement of two more persons in running the drug cartel during interrogation and they were identified as Narendra Mahawar and Md Abdul Nazir who were also arrested by the police from their respective places.

The police also seized one Toyota Fortuner bearing Assam registration number.

All four of them have been sent to police custody till April 25 by the Court of Judicial Magistrate First Class Kangpokpi.
