Imphal, April 18 2023:
The Phunal Maring Village Authority has appealed to the State Government to reconsider the restriction placed on building new houses on their border areas given the increasing number of residents.
Phunal Maring is under Kangpokpi district.
Addressing the media at the village today, chairman of the village authority P Meba Maring said that Phunal Maring, a Maring village set up in 1649 is mentioned clearly in Cheitharol Kumbaba.
Saying that their village now has 266 families comprising 1655 members, P Meba continued that extension/expansion of a family cannot be stopped.
The extended families will need their own houses at one point of time or other, P Meba reasoned and maintained that many of them are facing accommodation problems due to the restriction and population growth.
Saying that the village authority has been paying Hill House Tax for the areas where the restriction is applicable, he appealed to the Government to reconsider the restriction and take up some measures to solve their problem.
P Meba, on the other hand, claimed that some people are uploading a clip of a thicket being cleared again and again at their village to portray them in the wrong light.
