Midnight storm wreaks havoc, 1 hurt

A midnight storm accompanied by drizzle, thunder and lightning last night blew away at least three houses, damaged parts of Churachandpur Medical College and injured one person.
The storm that swept across Churachandpur blew away the three houses at Mission Veng, Hiangtam Lamka.
The injured person has been identified as one 42-year-old Lalminsang.
Sources said Lalminsang suffered a cut in his stomach as a tin roofing sheet hit him.
His wife and four little children, however, were not hurt even though their house and household items were blown away.
Even as several other items could be seen scattered in and around the spot where their house was located, their gas stove remains untraceable.
School uniforms and books of his children were also blown away by the storm.
The other two houses which were blown away belonged to Khutkhatpau (70), h/o Chiinhoihkim and Suanminthang (32), h/o Chinghoihkim.
On the other hand, the recently inaugurated Churachandpur Medical College (CMC) building also suffered multiple damages due to the storm.
Sections of wall, the roof of a block, few electric poles and ceiling were damaged and glasses broken inside the Female Medicine Ward, ICU and (proposed) Eye Ward.
Several trees were also uprooted by the storm.
Repairing work has been initiated at the medical college and its Director Dr S Iboyaima Singh is overseeing the work.
Meanwhile, Saikot MLA Paolenlal Haokip, Singngat MLA Chinlunthang and chief of Hiangtam Lamka Thangkhosuanmung Guite have reached out to the three families whose houses were blown away by the storm.
