Woman among four drug smugglers held

Judicial Magistrate First Class, Kangpokpi has remanded four people, who were arrested along with drugs by Kangpokpi PS team on Monday, to police custody till April 25.The four namely, Ashei-bam Thoibi (38), wife of Nongthombam Premananda of Huikap Mayai Leikai; Md Abdul Matalip (40), son of MV Qasim of Thoubal Moi-ing Wangma Taba Mayai Leikai; Narendra Mahawar (39), son of Madanlal Mahawar of Thangal Keithel; and Md Abdul Nasir (33), son of Md Abdul Rahim of Lilong Turel Ahanbi Khongnang Pheidekpi, were produced before the JMFC court on Tuesday with the appeal for further police custody.
As per the police report, a team of Kangpokpi PS led by OC inspector Kh Sunilkumar intercepted a passenger Tata Winger (MN061A-3936) during frisking operation at its check post along NH-2 .
Upon checking, police found 1.018 kg of brown sugar in side the bag of Asheibam Thoibi and she disclosed was brought along with her co-passenger Md Abdul Matalip.
Following their disclosure, police also arrested ring members Narendra Mahawar and Md Abdul Nasir along with a Toyota Fortuner (AS-01DT-2976) from different locations.
Meanwhile, Kangpokpi SP, Th Vikramjit told the media that the drug peddlers were pulled up after two occupants were found behaving in a suspicious manner.
The two were examined separately during which the lady occupant admitted presence of contraband drug inside her backpack (black colour) .
He continued that in the presence of Kangpokpi executive magistrate (SDC/BO), Kangpokpi and ASP (L&O) Tholu Rocky Pou, one transparent polythene bag containing suspected Brown Sugar was seized from Thoibi Devi.
The SP Kangpokpi also said that on preliminary interrogation of the accused persons, identifies and involvement of Narendra Mahawar in transferring of moneys through the 'hun-dy' system, as well as Md Abdul Nasir.
