Social worker Amu Kamei no more, many condole

Amu Kamei, a prominent social worker of Zeliangrong community and former president of Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland), who also held the post of president of Rongmei tribe apex civil society organisation, Rongmei Naga People's Organisation (RNPO) comprising three states Assam, Manipur & Nagaland, passed away on Tuesday morning after prolonged illness at Shija Hospital, Imphal.
He was undergoing medical treatment for multi-organ failure.
He left behind his wife, one son and five daughters.
His funeral programme will be held on Wednesday at his native village (Longmai Part-4, Noney district).
Meanwhile, Rongmei Naga People's Organisation (RNPO) and Zeliangrong Union (ZU) and their frontal organisations expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
As a politician, Amu Kamei first contested in District Council Election under Tamenglong Autonomous District Council in Longmai, Noney MDC Circle.
He also contested the Assembly Election from Nungba AC and later contested in Saitu assembly constituency.
During his social and political journey, he held many important posts in several civil organisations.
Rongmei Naga Students' Organisation Manipur (RNSOM) also condoled the untimely demise of Amu Kamei and described his departure as a great loss for the state and the nation.
"He had contributed his whole life for the betterment of society, state and nation through his priceless service in different forms.
His life journey itself is an encouragement and an example for younger generations to dream big and fly high in the service of the people", said RNSOM in a release by president Daichuipao and general secretary Jeanthui Panmei, All Tribal Chiefs' Forum (ATCF) Manipur also condoled the demise of its advisor Amu Kamei and prayed that the Almighty give strength to the bereaved family to endure the pain of irreparable loss.
Meanwhile, Longmai Students' Union has notified schools and colleges within Longmai area to declare April 19 as a half holiday to honour the late soul.
It has also urged the students and staff to observe a minute's silence during their assembly session.
