TAKDO to launch 'free education' campaign

Imphal, October 30 2026: The Thangmeiband Kendra Development Organisation (TAKDO) will launch a year-long campaign from December 12 to free the education sector from distur- bances, said MLA Khumuk-cham Joykisan today who is the chief patron of the organisation.

Addressing the media at Khuyathong today, the MLA said that the campaign, dubbed "TAKDO Year of Education", will begin on December 12, coinciding with the 16th foundation day of TAKDO, and continue till December 12, 2027 .

He said that bandhs, blockades and general strikes should not disturb the academic atmosphere in schools and colleges as much as possible.

He added that TAKDO would launch the campaign towards this end.

Saying that TAKDO has been providing free education to internally displaced persons taking refuge in Thangmeiband, Joykisan added that the organisation has also set up a residential school for students from Class III to X .

Not only IDPs, TAKDO has also been providing free education to students of Thangmeiband by engaging private teachers and providing free meals, he added.

The MLA further stated that TAKDO volunteers have also been running a pre-primary school for children aged 3 to 6 .

He appealed to all groups and civil society organisations to ensure that the education of students up to Class XII is not disrupted by bandhs or blockades.

Joykisan said that education is essential for safeguarding any community and the State at large.

Saying that students in Manipur are unable to attend school for a complete academic calendar, he added that even during normal times, many students are unable to focus on their studies.

Stating that students are the future of the State, he reiterated that bandhs, blockades and general strikes should not disturb the academic atmosphere in schools and colleges as far as possible.

He appealed to all civil society organisations and groups to exempt the education sector from bandhs and blockades, as is done in cases of emergencies and essential services.
