Imphal, October 29 2026: Unknown miscreants dismantled and burnt down the village gate of Phunal Maring Village, located between Santrok and Thiyam under Irilbung Police Station in Imphal East, last midnight.

Speaking to the media, Phunal Maring Village Authority chairman P Memma said that burning down the village gate in such a cowardly manner was nothing but a disrespect to the culture and traditions of the Maring community, one of the indigenous communities of Manipur.

He said that the villagers held the gate in high regard as it had been erected by their elders.

Stating that the incident could create misunderstanding among people living in the area, he condemned the burning of the village gate.
