Imphal, July 26 2023:
Taking strong exception to the selective and persistent attacks on Meiteis by Kuki militants despite the deployment of large companies of Central security forces, the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has asked whether the Central Government takes Manipur as a colonised State.
Addressing the media at Lamphelpat today, media coordinator of COCOMI Somorendro Thokchom said that they condemn today's incident at Moreh where several houses of Meiteis were looted and torched by Kuki miscreants.
He also said that Moreh is a border town which is closely associated with the history of Meiteis.
Claiming that the abandoned houses of Meiteis were looted and torched right under the nose of Central security forces, he said that the paramilitary forces allowed the State commandos to come outside of Moreh police station only after the houses were looted and flattened.
Asking if the Central leadership takes Manipur as a colonised State of India and has a secret agenda on the ongoing violence, Somorendro said the primary duty of the security force is to protect the lives and properties of people.
Somorendro went on to claim that nine people who were arrested for setting fire to the two buses with RAF personnel onboard at Sapormeina have been released without any condition.
Saying that some people who were arrested for torching a vehicle of a senior police officer at Kwakeithel and another three trucks at Awang Sekmai are still not released, Somorendro said that such preferential treatment of the people has evoked a larger question.
Has the Central Government formulated separate laws for the hill and valley districts of Manipur, he asked.
Urging the State Government to convene a special session of the State Assembly and mount strong pressure on the Centre while the monsoon session of the Parliament is underway, Somorendro said that COCOMI and the people may take strong resolution against the 40 valley MLAs.
