The court of JMIC Imphal West-2 on Wednesday rejected the bail applications of 20 people, who were arrested in connection with the torching of a car belonging to IG (Intelligence) of Manipur Police at Kwakeithel on July 19 .
Of the total 30 people arrested in connection with the incident, four were found to be juvenile and granted bail after producing them before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB).
Another five were also produced before the court concerned and released on bail.
The remaining 21 accused persons were produced before the court on July 21, which remanded them to judicial custody for 15 days and fixed July 26 to hear their regular bail applications.
Amongst the 21 accused, one was to appear for an examination and as such, was produced before the court on Tuesday and granted bail.
In accordance with the court's orders, the remaining accused persons were produced before the court of JMIC Imphal West-2 on Wednesday, where their bail applications were heard.
After thoroughly examining the applications, the court observed that the FIR registered by the police included Section 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC, which is beyond the jurisdiction of the court.
Thus, the court rejected the bail applications, stating that the court was not suitable for hearing the applications and directed the accused persons to appeal to the Sessions Judge concerned.
