Imphal, July 26 2023:
The Zeliangrong Students' Union Manipur (ZSUM) has claimed that three people from Khunkhu Naga Village and Leimakhong Liangmei Village were abducted at gun-point by unknown miscreants from Mantripukhri near auto-parking at around 2.30 pm yesterday while heading towards their places.
In a statement, the Union claimed that they (the three persons) were forced to drive till Khabam Lamkhai, Mantripukhri and released after detaining them for nearly 20 minutes.
Condemning the 'provocative' act, the ZSUM said such incidents will only escalate the tension in Manipur.
The Union urged the Government to take up necessary action.
Meanwhile, the ZSUM also appealed to the Government, civil society organisations (CSOs), general public and authorities concerned to take up necessary measures to ensure the safety of the students amid the unrest in Manipur.
In a statement, ZSUM said that students are feeling insecure due to the ongoing crisis in Manipur.
The students couldn't concentrate on their studies though schools, colleges and universities have reopened and this is a major setback to them, it added.
It is difficult to establish someone's identity on meare apearance in a society like Manipur, the Union said.
Naga is a patriarchal society where a woman's identity is assimilated with her husband/spouse, it said and appealed to one and all to understand the nature of Naga society.
