Imphal, July 26 2023:
There is need for the central government to change its way of handing the conflict in Manipur, said Eastern Liangmai Baptist Association executive secretary Rev Chabon jinang Thiumai.
On Wednesday, members of the Association along with Liangmai womenfolk handed over essential items to the displaced people staying in the relief camps opened at Lamboikhongnangk-hong, THAU ground, Thangmeiband and Shyamasakhi Girls High School,Moirangkhom.
Speaking on the sidelines, Rev Cha-bonjinang Thiumai observed that the central government, with the measures it had taken up till date, has been unable to curb the violence in the state even after more than 75 days.
Although the centre has deployed over 60,000 central forces in the state, the violence is still on-going.
As such, the optimal solution would be to arrange a platform for the two communities involved in the conflict to talk and sort out their issues.
With regard to the visit, he said that the Liangmai thought of extending some assistance to the Meitei brethren who are staying in relief camps.
He then exhorted the inmates not to lose hope and urged for concerted efforts to end the violence.
