MU committee, political parties, GOC meet Governor

Imphal, July 26 2023:
A team of Manipur University Peace and Normalcy Restoration Committee led by University's vice chancellor prof N Lokendra Singh called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday and briefed her about the functioning of the University and humanitarian services rendered to the violence affected displaced people staying in various relief camps.
According to Governor's secretariat release, professor Lokendra informed the Governor that normal classes have commenced after the summer break and examinations of undergraduate courses have also been conducted.
He stated that students from other states have also started returning and joining classes.
He also informed that two relief committees have been set up and assistance extended to the displaced people in relief camps.
The team also submitted a proposal for early restoration of peace and normalcy in the state.
Appreciating the efforts of the Committee, the Governor pointed out that drinking water, household items, consumables, clothes, medicines, etc., are in need by those staying in relief camps and as such should be made available, if possible.
The Governor also appealed the Committee to extend their fullest cooperation in the efforts to dispel hatred among communities and to restore peace in the state.
On the other hand, representatives of 10 political parties called on the Governor with a request to convene special session of Manipur Legislative Assembly to discuss the on-going crisis and explore ways and means to solve the issue through a peaceful and amicable dialogue.
Wednesday also had 3 Corps GOC lieutenant general HS Sahi along with IGAR (S) major general Rajan Sharawat meeting with the Governor and briefing her about the prevailing security situation in Manipur.
The general officers assured preparedness of Army to face any eventuality/challenges coming out in Manipur.
A five-member delega tion of the Congress party led by former chief minis -ter Okram Ibobi Singh also called on Governor Uikev on Wednesday evening and proposed her to convene an emergency session of Manipur Legislative Assembly on the on-going unprecedented turmoil in the State.
The MLA delegation pointed out that under Article 174(1) of the Constitution of India, an emergency session could be convened in the best interest of the people of Manipur to discuss the on-going crisis.
They stated that Manipur legislative Assembly is the most appropriate forum to discuss and debate the on-going turmoil for which suggestions and measures to restore normalcy can be tabled and discussed.
