Imphal, July 26 2023:
While the Kuki brethren presented precise and clear reports on each and every case of offensives committed against them, the Meitei side didn't provide any clear report, the National Commission for Women Chairperson Rekha Sharma told senior citizens today.
This was expressed by the Chairperson of the women's commission when several members of the Senior Citizens Club, Manipur met her to discuss the current tension between the Meiteis and the Kukis and crimes against women, said the senior citizens in a statement.
While she came to Manipur to understand the current situation and crimes that have been committed on both sides, the Chairperson expressed disappointment and concern on the lack of clear reports from the Meitei side, said the senior citizens.

During the meeting, the senior citizens told the Chairperson about the death of S Ibetombi, wife of Late freedom fighter Sorokhaibam Churachand of Serou Awang Leikai, Kakching district.
S Ibetombi was locked inside her house and burnt alive by the Kukis on May 28 .
S Ibetombi's Late husband, S Churachand was honoured by former President APJ Abdul Kalam in 2004 .
Requesting the Chairperson to urge the Centre and the State Government to take appropriate action on the incident, the Senior Citizens Club submitted a petition.
The Chairperson of the women commission requested the senior citizens to file FIRs for cases related to crime against women and file complaints with the commission for taking up necessary and appropriate actions.
She also stressed the need for all to cooperate and work towards restoring peace in Manipur.
Expressing concern that the Meitei side lacks clear reports, the Chairperson urged all victims not to hide crimes committed against them amid the current tension.
It may be noted that the violence first started on May 3 after a "Solidarity March'' organised by the All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) turned ugly and violent at Bishnupur's Torbung area.
The string of violence that have happened since then have killed more than 140 people and displaced thousands of the people who are now staying at relief camps opened across the State.
