Imphal, July 26 2023:
Accusing Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga of patronising Kuki militants and scheming to create trouble in the entire North East region, effigies of Zoramthanga were burnt today at Sagolband Moirang Leirak and Tera Keithel.
At Sagolband, the gathering raised slogans such as "Long live Manipur", "Root out narco-terrorism", "We condemn the conduct of Mizoram CM" and " Manipur should be kept intact" among others while burning the effigies.
Speaking to media persons, member of SPC Sagolband RK Suchilata claimed that Zoramthanga may be the leader of narco-terrorists creating trouble in Manipur as he openly supported them.
Why did Mizoram Chief Minister take part in the rally which was taken out allegedly to justify the aggression of Kuki militants, she asked and added that the response given by Zoramthanga on Manipur violence is unbecoming of the position he holds.
He (Zoramthanga) knows who fired the first bullet and who torched the first house which triggered the series of violence in Manipur, Suchilata added.
Claiming that Zoramthanga wants to escalate the violence in Manipur and create trouble in the entire region (North East), she urged the Central Government to take up strong action against the Mizoram Chief Minister.
Effigies of Zoramthanga were also burnt at Tera Keithel under Patsoi Constituency by a large number of people.
A meira paibi who took part in the protest demonstration said that the Mizoram Chief Minister taking the sides of Kukis openly instead of lending help to defuse the tension is unfortunate.
He (Zoramthanga) shouldn't interfere in the affairs of Manipur, she said and asked if the Mizoram Chief Minister is unaware of the quit notice served to the Meiteis staying in his State.
She urged the Central Government to take note of the unfolding scenario in Manipur and Mizoram lately and do the needful at the earliest.
