Imphal, July 26 2023: Ksh Maheshwari of Imphal East claimed the women's singles title in the 67th State Open Badminton Championship which is underway at MBA indoor hall, DMU campus.

Maheshwari got the better of Vilinda Huidrom of Imphal West 21-16, 21-13 in the final match to seal the top honour this afternoon.

Maheshwari earned the final berth on the back of a 21-14, 21-19 win over Angita Norem of Imphal West after Vilinda saw off K Gunjan of Imphal East 17-21, 22-20, 21-16 in the first semi-final match.

Kakching district women's pair of Naorem Purnima and Somibala M were crowned the champions earlier as they registered a hardfought 23-21, 24-22 win over Imphal West's pair of L Diana and Vilinda Huidrom in a keenly contested title clash.

Earlier in the day, Purnima and Somibala reached the final with 21-10, 21-12 win over IE-IW pair of L Sheetal and Sananu Maisnam before Diana and Vilinda notched up an easy 21-6, 21-6 win over Kakching's pair of M Elina and Sagorika Naorem.

Bidyasagar Salam of Imphal West is set to lock horns with H Malemnganba of Bishnupur for the men's singles title.

Bidyasagar eased to a 21-13, 21-12 win over L Unilkumar of Thoubal in the first semi-final match this morning while Malemnganba made it to the final with a comfortable 21-11, 21-17 win over Sirzeet M of Imphal East.

The men's doubles final will be an all Bishnupur clash as the pair of N Rohenkumar and RK Alen outlasted IW-Tbl pair of Kh Punshiba and L Unilkumar 21-13, 26-24 in the first semi-final before K Dingku and Manjit secured a 21-14, 23-21 win over Brikson and H Malemnganba in an all Bishnupur semi-final clash.

L Unilkumar however had a reason to rejoin later as he and his partner Naorem Purnima of Kakching won the mixed doubles title with a 21-18, 21-7 win over Bpr-Kak pair of O Aimson and Somibala. U-15 competitions
Leonie Tayenjam of Imphal West lifted the U-15 girls singles competition today as Sushanta M of Kakching earned the boys' title.

Leonie outclassed Ch Bellarix 21-7, 21-7 in an all Imphal West final clash while Sushanta pulled off a 21-18, 21-14 win over Martin Ingudam of Bishnupur in the boy's singles final.

Earlier in the girls singles semi-final matches, Leonie thumped Chanulembi Sapam of IW 21-15, 23-21 while Ch Bellarix outlasted IE's M Rebika 21-14, 21-17 .

In the boys' competition, Sushanta sealed the final ticket with an easy 21-8, 21-19 win over L Luwangamba of IW after Martin Ingudam registered a 21-18, 21-17 semi-final win over IW's Ch Bose.

Ch Bose and S Shyamchandra of Imphal West, in the meantime emerged champions of the boys doubles competition after notching up a 21-17, 21-8 win over Bishnupur pair of O Charles Babbage and Samsom Salam in the final.

Ch Bose also claimed the mixed doubles title with IE's L Nandita as they carved out an easy 21-8, 21-11 win over IW pair of M Suraj and Ch Bellarix 21-8, 21-11 in the final.

40th Inter District Championships
The junior boys and girls team events of the 40th Inter District Championships also began today.

Kakching district boys' team pulled off a 2-0 win over Thoubal district today as Imphal East team sealed a similar 2-0 win over Bishnupur district.

Kakching boys kicked off their campaign with Elangbam Shitaljit registering a 14-21, 21-9, 21-15 win over Yumnam Sudiskumar of Thoubal before K Dayananda and Wahengbam Juvaraj posted a 19-21, 21-18, 21-11 win against Shaikhom Gung and Yumnam Sudiskumar to made it 2-0 and seal the competition.

Meanwhile, Imphal East eased to a comfortable lead with Moirangthem Priya notching up a 21-8, 21-3 win over Bebina Thingbaijam of Bishnupur.

They completed the 2-0 thrashing with Konsam Gunjan and Moirangthem Priya pairing up well to register a 21-7, 21-3 win over Dolly RK and Linthoi Huirem in the second event.
