Imphal, July 26 2023:
In connection with the directive issued by National Commission for Scheduled Castes to submit report about aggression/attacks by Kuki militants in villages inhabited by the Scheduled Caste (SC) community, All Manipur Scheduled Caste Students' Union (AMSCSU) has enquired chief secretary about the initiatives taken up, if any, in compliance with the directive.
Speaking to media persons at Thangmeiband on Wednesday, AMSCSU president Angom Sun-derjit urged the chief secretary and the DGP to heed the directive issued by the Commission subsequent to complaints lodged by RPI (A) national secretary Maheshwar Thounaojam on July 18 .
Pointing out that presentation of unverified report will only complicate the situation and compound suffering of the already-troubled people, Sunderjit stressed the need for submission of impartial reports regarding frequent attacks and creating fear and pain on the SC community residing in foothill areas and are mainly engaged in manual works.
Not only halting plantation and agriculture activities by the violence, students are facing tremendous inconveniences to the people, he pointed out and appealed to withdraw central paramilitary forces stationed in schools in SC inhabited areas.
The president also proposed deployment of the state security forces and provision of special economic package for the SC dominated villages such as Sekmai, Khurkhul, Tairenpokpi, Kadangband, Phayeng and Lei-maram so as to improve their economy. Sunderjit also cautioned of launching different forms of intense agitations if the government fails to honour their demands.
