Iril water now suitable for use

Chairman of Manipur Pollution Control Board (MPCB) Dr Usham Deben has stated that water in the portion of Iril River in the upstream of Dolaithabi Dam where black substances were found floating recently is now suitable for human use.
Speaking to the media at Lamphelpat today, Dr Deben continued that the black substance found floating in the river on February 7 was not oil or grease as per the test conducted on the sample.
He also said that the sample collected from the portion of the river was found suitable for human use during the laboratory test.
Notably, unfamiliar black substances suspected to be residue of burnt trees were found floating in Iril River on February 7 .
On leakage of heavy fuel from Leimakhong Power Plant, Dr Deben maintained that the sample collected from Kanto Sabal was found to have high content of oil and grease while testing on January 11 .
He continued that the content of oil and grease in the water have reduced over time and is now suitable for human use due to timely intervention by the State Government.
The oil leakage took place on January 10 and the same was detected at Kanto Sabal under Sekmai police station.
