Imphal, February 13 2024:
The Editors' Guild Manipur (EGM) and Publishers and Editors of media houses have appealed to all concerned to stop sharing PDF file, screenshot, photo or digital clipping of newspapers or content of print media based in Manipur on social media without taking due approval from relevant authority to avoid legal actions.
In a joint press release, EGM, Editors and Publishers said that circulation of e-papers, PDF or photo of newspapers or print media on social media is illegal and violation of the Copyright Act, 1957; Trademark Act, 1999 and Information Technology Act, 2000 .
It continued that sharing the link of a news story or an article of print or electronic media, however, is legal.
Saying that cropped or full versions of PDFs, screenshots or photos of news stories and articles are still being shared widely on social media despite repeated appeals by media houses not to do so, the joint statement said that EGM, Editors and Publishers take the matter very seriously.
The EGM, Editors and Publishers have unanimously resolved to take legal action if anyone is found sharing a news story or an article of dailies or print media operating in Manipur illegally, it cautioned.
