TAKL calls off indefinite economic blockade along NH-2

The Southern Tangkhul Students' Union (TAKL) has called off its indefinite economic blockade along National Highway 102 (Wanglee-Kasom-Yairipok Road) from 7 pm today after receiving assurance from RD & PR Minister Yumnam Khemchand and the PMGSY Department to address the neglected PMGSY works in their region.
According to a statement issued by Thanshim Jajo, general secretary, TAKL and Yarchuiso Kashung, president, TAKL, the Union took the resolution following a joint meeting with Minister Yumnam Khemchand, PMGSY Department and Leishiyo Keishing, MLA 43-Phungyar.However, the press note has cautioned that TAKL will resume the economic blockade from February 18 onwards if the authorities fail to fulfill the assurances provided.
In this connection, it may be noted that the Minister has ordered the completion of Yaingangpokpi (Bazar) to Chadong Road within 10 days.
Regarding the Kangkum to Wanglee Road, the TAKL statement said that immediate action should be taken from February 14 onwards by maintaining the directive steps of construction as given by the PMGSY Department.
A spot inquiry of the PMGSY works in the region will also be conducted on February 17 jointly by the Union, RD & PR Minister, Phungyar MLA and the concerned department, added the statement.
However, the L029 to Nongdam (T) Road has been exempted due to inconvenience arising from the ongoing crisis.
