Awareness prog on breast, cervical cancer held

American Oncology Institute at Babina Specialty Hospital, Khabeisoi in collaboration with Social Welfare Department and Babina Diagnostics, organised breast and cervical cancer awareness programme at the Department on Wednesday.
During the programme, AOI senior consultant (radiation oncologist) Dr Th Tomcha Singh expressed concern over rising incidence of breast and cervical cancer in Manipur, and cited late marriage, sedentary lifestyle, consumption of tobacco and liquor as some of the significant contributing factors for the ailment.
While advising all concerned to self-examine for early detection and effective treatment outcomes, he also recommended vaccination of females in the age group of 9-14 years with HPV vaccine for the prevention of cervical cancer.
In his address, Social Welfare director Ngangom Uttam expressed gratitude to the institute for the initiative and recognising the importance of raising awareness among both staffers and the society regarding breast and cervical cancer.
He also called upon government employees to empanel themselves for availing the advanced cancer treatment facilities that AOI Babina Specialty Hospital is providing.
AOI Babina Specialty Hospital facility director Manas Majumdar underscored the paramount importance of early detection in the fight against breast and cervical cancer.

He further informed that every Thursday from 2pm to 5 pm free consultation with doctor along with free ultrasound breast and pap smear test would be conducted.
