NIA takes over six cases

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over six different cases of violence including the assassination of Moreh SDPO Chingtham Anandkumar on October 31, 2023 and the murder of four Meitei civilians by Kuki militants at Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou on January 18, 2024 .
According to applications filed by NIA before the Special Court NIA Manipur, it took over the six cases and re-registered six FIRs as per directions issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on February 7 and February 8 .
On February 9, 2024, NIA re-registered six FIRs under different sections of IPC for further investigation of the cases.
The NIA prayed the Court to direct the IOs of the six different cases to hand over all the case related documents and seized materials, if any, to its Chief Investigating Officers.
On February 9, the NIA re-registered a case based on an FIR registered at Moreh police station under different sections of IPC and the Foreigners Act in connection with the assassination of Moreh SDPO Chingtham Anandkumar.
On the same day, NIA re-registered a second case based on another FIR registered at Moreh police station in connection with the attack towards IRB post located at Moreh and at Moreh Bazar area on January 17, 2024 by heavily armed Kuki militants using bombs and bullets in which Takhellambam Seileshor, Havildar of Manipur Police attached to Special Commando succumbed to bullet injury and six other security personnel sustained injuries, and were airlifted to Imphal for treatment.
Another FIR registered at Moreh police station was re- registered by the NIA in connection with the attack towards the Indian Reserve Battalion post of Kondong Lairembi using bombs and firearms on January 17 in which one Rifleman of Manipur Rifles identified as Wangkhem Somorjit was killed and two other police personnel were injured.
The fourth case re-registered by NIA is based on an FIR registered at Bishnupur police station in connection with the brutal murder of four Meitei civilians including a father-son duo inside a water treatment plant located at Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou on January 18 at around 3.30 pm.
On that day, some Kuki militants armed with sophisticated weapons came down from the nearby hill to the water treatment plant and opened indiscriminate fire inside the water treatment plant and killed four Meitei civilians.
The victims were identified as Oinam Bamonjao, his son Oinam Manitomba, Thiyam Somen and Ning-thoujam Nabadip.
All of them belonged to Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou.
The last two cases re-registered by NIA are based on FIRs lodged at Porompat police station and Imphal police station in connection with a firing incident that took place at Palace Gate and the alleged attack by unknown persons on the north western gate of the 1st Manipur Rifles on November 1, 2023 night.
After perusing the six different applications filed by the NIA, the Court directed concerned Session Judge to transfer all judicial dockets/case records of the corresponding FIRs to the Special Court NIA Manipur on or before February 16 .
The Court also directed the concerned IOs of the six different cases to hand over all the case related documents and seized material/exhibits, if any, to the Chief Investigating Officer of NIA at the earliest.
