Kanto Sabal, Dolaithabi water safe for use: MLA

Referring to detection of heavy fuel spillage in the stream of Kanto Sabal on January 9 and presence of oily substance in Iril river near Dolaithabi dam on February 7, Manipur Pollution Control Board chairman and MLA Usham Deben informed that no harmful substances were found in the water.
As such, people should not be apprehensive of using the water from the mentioned water bodies, he allayed Speaking to media person at the Board's Lamphelpat office on Tuesday, MLA Deben informed that the board on January 11 collected and tested the water samples from the streams of Kanto Sabal subsequent to the spillage of heavy fuel on the streams.
At the time of collection, high percentage of oil and grease was found in the water.
However, after continuous collection and testing of water samples, it is now not harmful, he said.
Regarding the presence of oil-like black substances in Iril River near Dolaithabi Dam, staffers of the board collected the water samples and examined through different parameters.
During the testing, it found that the water is normal.
As such, people can use it without any fear, the chairman allayed.
