Imphal, February 13 2024:
A 'Helpline Team' consisting of eight organisations was formed on Tuesday under the aegis of Forum for Restoration of Peace (FRP) with the objective to intervene in unwanted incidents.
Announcing this during a press meet held at the office of New Checkon Tribal Market Management Committee on Tuesday, FRP convenor Ashang Kasar said that unwanted incidents that may strain relationship among different communities are occurring intermittently amid the ongoing crisis.
The present conflict is between the Meetei and Kuki.
Naga and Meitei Pangal are on neutral ground and yet people of these communities are also suffering the impact of the crisis, he noted.
While keeping aside the indirect impact of the crisis, there have been multiple instances of unwanted incidents occurring in different parts of valley area, which might threaten the bond of brotherhood among different communities.
FRP has been making all out efforts to resolve any such issues and prevent any conflict of interest among the neutral communities, he said, while urging all concerned to refrain from indulging in any such acts.
Ashang said that the Helpline Team was formed with representatives from FRP, Rongmei Naga Council Manipur - Imphal Zone, Rongmei Naga Luphong, Tribal Market Management Committee, United Meitei Pangal Committee Manipur, Tangkhul Naga Valley Students' Association, Mao Union Imphal and Kom Union Manipur under the leadership of FRP.
The team has 10 representatives from the eight organisations and it will intervene in case of unwanted incidents affecting the neutral communities, and seek assistance of authority concerned as and when required, he said.
Informing that a WhatsApp group has been formed for the team as well, Ashang appealed to victims of such incidents to report to the team or any member of the team instead of sharing their plight on social media.
The team will work with major CSOs to resolve any issues or take assistance from law enforcing agencies if the situation is serious.
In most cases, such acts are carried out by miscreants, who lack understanding of the situation, he said, and appealed to CSOs and local clubs, as well as the general public to cooperate with the team.
The FRP convenor further appealed to all to report any unwanted incident to the members of the team through their mobile numbers - Rongmei Naga Council Manipur - Imphal Zone chairman Gaibi (8974128019), Tribal Market Management Committee's Bunchui Khumba (8119083707), Tangkhul Naga Valley Students' Association vice-president Yangmi Ningshen (9863009747), United Meitei Pangal Committee, Manipur's Islam Makakcha (8794066205), Kom Union Manipur's Boyesh Kom (9378011627), Mao Union Imphal's A Loli Mao (9612288777), FRP members Palmei Romi (9612343373), Elton Gangmei (8787888028), Nganaomi Kasar (8119872056), and P Lem Thangal (9862601888) .
