Safe driving stressed at Road Safety Month observance

Imphal, February 13 2024:
Imphal West district administration observed the 35th National Road Safety Month, 2024 in collaboration with Additional SP Traffic Control Police Wing on Tuesday.
The observance was participated by Imphal West additional deputy commissioner (ADM) Dr N Johnson Meetei and additional SP (TCPW) Debananda along with staffers of district administration and Traffic Police personnel.
Road safety awareness programmes were carried out at MST Gate, Moirangkhom and along Tiddim Road near Imphal College by distributing pamphlets, notepads, pens and helmets to passers-by and motorists, who were also encouraged to spread road safety awareness through various means including social media.
As a part of the programme, a quiz competition for class VII to IX students was held at Ibotonsana Girls' Higher Secondary School, Uripok in collaboration with Zonal Education Officer, Zone-I, on the theme 'Road Safety in India' .
The programme ended with distribution of certificates and prizes to the winning teams and participants.
Meanwhile, the 35th National Road Safety Month observed in Thoubal district since January 15 concluded on Tuesday with distribution of prizes to winners of district level essay and painting competitions conducted as part of the observance.
The closing function organised by Thoubal district administration in collaboration with District Transport Office was attended by deputy commissioner Ahanthem Subhash, SDO M Ranjita and SDO (Lilong) Julia Khuraijam as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
The programme was also attended by DTO Kh Sanjeev, DSP (traffic) Md Amin Bani and students.
Similarly, Transport Department in collaboration with Institute of Driver Training and Research Centre, Manipur (IDTRC) and GP Women's College organised one day road safety awareness programme on 'Road safety and the importance of its awareness to us' at the college.
The programme was attended by DTO (Churachandpur) L Johnson, DTO (Kangpokpi) S Sanahal, GP Women's College assistant professor Dr Shileima Chanu Naoroibam, IDTRC project manager Doren Heisnam and vice president Kh Deben, and students of the college.
Speaking at the programme, S Sanahal emphasised that everybody needs to be aware of road safety measures and road signage to reduce road accidents and save loss of lives as well as properties.
Later, a quiz session was organised for resource persons and participants while pamphlets containing messages on road safety and traffic rules were distributed to the participants.
