Imphal, January 25 2024:
Pointing out that chicken feeds are mainly based on corn, The Green Foundation chief executive officer Urikkhinbam Himmat informed that replacing corn with brown rice will help farmers, who face issues in marketing their paddy.
Himmat participated in a training programme on 'Multi-country observational mission on smart poultry farming' held at Mode Sathorn Hotel, Bangkok.
Organised jointly by Asian Productivity Organisation (APO), Tokyo and Thailand Productivity Institute from January 23, the training concluded on Thursday.
Speaking to The People's Chronicle from Thailand over the phone, Himmat conveyed that he is part of a three-member delegation from India at the event, which was attended by delegations from 17 Asian countries.
The training mainly focused on smart poultry farming, its benefits, potential policies that can be adopted by the government to address challenges facing by farmers, and contribution of farmers.
The delegates visited smart poultry farms in Thailand, where they found chicken feeds based on brown rice instead of corn: "One might think that brown rice may be another type of rice but that is not the case.
The name brown rice derives from the colour of the rice just after removing the husk.
It is similar to the rice used in distilling liquor in Manipur," he said.
Producing chicken feed using brown rice will not only benefit farmers, who are finding it hard to sell their paddy but also prove to be a nutritious feed for chicken, especially layers, he said.
