Imphal, January 25 2024:
Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) on Wednesday submitted an 80-page affidavit highlighting genesis of the ethnic conflict in the state since May 3 and enclosed a booklet having 280 pages of documents published in several journals and Kuki nation building book 'Zalengam' as annexures to the Inquiry Commission formed for probing the Manipur violence According to COCOMI media coordinator Y Surjit Khuman, the government of India (GOI) should withdraw the suspension of operation (SoO) agreement signed with Kuki armed groups as the latter are violating the agreed ground rules, continuing to attack civilians and even state forces by joining hands with illegal immigrants from Myanmar.
In fact, the state government had already revoked the SoO pact with two of the militant groups, it pointed out.
Recalling a meeting held with the chief minister of Manipur to press the demand for a final decision by the state government regarding the on-going conflict and exerting pressure on the Union government effectively contain anti-people activities of Kuki militants, he said four resolutions were accepted by the state government after convening a meeting.
However, as COCOMI's long standing demand for updating NRC remains unaddressed, the state government should take another resolution for updating NRC with 1951 as base year so to deport illegal immigrants and the resolution should be sent to the central government, he demanded.
