MIYC calls for ceasing excessive demand

Imphal, March 18 2024: Expressing concern over deteriorating economic conditions of people of the state, Manipur International Youth Centre (MIYC) has appealed to organisations/Lup collecting donation in the name of the on-going conflict to ponder over seriously before serving unbearable monetary demand to public.

According to a statement of MIYC, the attack on indigenes by the Kukis since May 3, 2023 compelled many organisations/Lup to collect donations from public to fund the 'war' against the Kukis.

As the war drags on for more than ten months, many organisations working for the people are applying pressure tactics particularly against government employees, businessmen and institutions to collect donation amount unbearable to them and this has caused stress and mental problem to many.

It is well known among the people that huge amount of money is required in fighting a war and accordingly people contributed through organisations/Lups for those in the frontline fighting narco-terrorists from the very beginning of the conflict.

However, repeated monetary collection by many organisations/Lup almost on weekly basis almost compelled small businessmen, institutions and shop owners to cease their activities and even down shutters while government employees and pensioners fear of picking up phone and hesitant to stay at their homes.

Even though the present war caused a severe economic crisis in the state and purchasing power of the people have significantly dropped, both governments of India and Manipur remain adamant to tackle the crisis and rather trying to conceal it, the MIYC said.

According to the MIYC statement, it would be wrong on part of organisations/Lup collecting donation for the war to consider that government employees and individuals particularly businessmen are sitting leisurely in their homes as patriotism is in the heart of every individual and everybody shoulder their responsibilities for the motherland in their own capabilities.

While urging organisa-tions/Lup collecting donation for people's cause and the ongoing war to study income of the donors and how much they have donated in the past before serving unbearable monetary demand, the MIYC said no attempt should be made to shed tears of the people.

It also said that no movement in the world have ever succeeded without participation of the people and accordingly no attempt should be made to separate the people and organisations/Lup.

In view of the present economic condition and suffering the people of the state have faced since the past ten months, the MIYC appealed to organisations/Lups working for the causes of the people to be humane and study financial conditions before serving unbearable monetary demand to any individual.
