Imphal, June 03 2026:
The Thadou Students' Association (TSA) has welcomed the appointment of Mukesh Singh, IPS, as Manipur's new Director General of Police, who assumed charge on June 1, 2026, at Police Headquarters, Mantripukhri.
Citing the May 13, 2026 terrorist ambush on Thadou Church leaders at Kotlen-Kotzim Inter Village Road that killed Rev Dr Vumthang Sitlhou and two others, TSA said the attack exposed a "total breakdown of law and order" and had earlier demanded the previous DGP's removal.
While calling the leadership change "long-overdue", TSA stressed that it must lead to visible results.
It urged the new DGP to immediately transfer the case to the NIA, ensure security for victims and witnesses, launch intelligence-driven operations to arrest all involved, enforce impartial policing, and rebuild public trust through transparency.
TSA added that the Thadou people have faced threats from "Kuki terrorism" and said all communities should be identified by their correct names, noting Manipur is multi-ethnic, not tri-ethnic.
