Native peoples' meet resolves to fight narco-terrorism

Imphal, June 02 2026: A native people's convention on the sustained aggression and violence unleashed by Kuki narco-terrorists was held today at Makhan village, Kangpokpi district, and the convention resolved to fight narco-terrorism collectively.

The native people's convention was organised by the Native People's Committee Manipur (NPCM) and it was participated by different indigenous communities including Zeliang- rong, Tangkhul, Meitei, Mao etc .

Notably, NPCM was formed by several Naga and Meitei CSOs.

Many resource persons also spoke on different topics.

K Timothy Zimik (retired IRS) spoke on "Challenges of influx and demographic threat", Head of Department, Law, MU Dr Y Premananda on "Removal of Assam Rifles and abrogation of SoO", demographer Dr RK Narendra on "Updation of NRC and census" and IGNTU Assistant Prof Homen Thangjam on "Present crisis of Manipur" .

The convention unanimously adopted a resolution demanding immediate abrogation of the SoO agreement with Kuki militants.

Saying that people have lost all faith in the Assam Rifles and they have failed miserably to perform their duties, the convention resolved to demand withdrawal of the paramilitary force from Manipur.

Updating NRC before census operations was another resolution adopted at the convention.

It also resolved to hold joint consultative meetings between NPCM and Naga and Meitei legislators on different key issues of the State from time to time.

Fight all acts of external aggression and narco-terrorism collectively was another resolution adopted at the convention.

It also resolved that all the six abducted Naga civilians must be released immediately.

Constitution of a delegation of NPCM to highlight the Manipur crisis and associated issues in different parts of the country and abroad, if necessary, was another resolution adopted today at Makhan.

It further resolved to observe June 2 as Native People's Convention Day every year.

The convention resolved to stand firm and boycott the Government collectively in case the Government chooses to intimidate and detain members of NPCM .

It also decided that all members of NPCM must stay away from both the Government of India and the State Government so that they do not fall prey to the Government's deceit.

Holding consultative meetings at district headquarters was another resolution adopted at the convention.

The convention was attended by representatives of Joint Tribes' Council, Naga People's Union imphal and Foothills Naga Coordination Committee (FNCC) .

They vehemently condemned the aggression and violence unleashed by Kuki militants against indigenous people as well as abduction of six Naga civilians and keeping them hostage.

Many of the speakers asserted that the inability of indigenous people to move freely on National Highways is a direct result of the Government's failure.

They underscored the urgent need for all indigenous people to join hands and fight the ongoing aggression collectively.

NPCM convenor Ashang Kashar said that NPCM was formed by Naga and Meitei CSOs and today's convention was convened with the basic objective of bringing all the indigenous communities together.

He pointed out that the crisis seen today would not have happened had there been no SoO agreement.

It is the SoO agreement which enabled Kuki militants to launch a sustained aggression against the indigenous people, he further said.

Ashang Kashar added that they will soon hold a consultative meeting with the Naga and Meitei legislators on the unfolding situation and share inputs with each other to resolve the issue.
