NSUC urges CM to address grievances of Chandel denizens

Imphal, October 09 2023: Naga Students' Union Chandel (NSUC) has urged chief minister N Biren to address the grievances of people living in Chandel district at the earliest including prolonged mobile internet ban, non-declaration DMU's 6th Semester exams for students of the district arid collapse of banking services.

In a memorandum submitted through deputy commissioner Chandel on Monday, NSUC president SK Joseph expressed dismay over the imposition of ban mobile internet service in the entire state of Manipur, Chandel district in particular which has always remained a peaceful zone even in the midst face of some areas of Manipur engulfed in violence.

"We understand the imperative of the state government in taking necessary measures to curb the ongoing crisis but imposing mobile internet ban in peaceful zone like Chandel defies rationality.

Mention may be made that the people of Chandel have put in great efforts and sacrifices in maintaining peace and tranquillity in the district".

"Yet, owing to the internet ban, our efforts have gone in vain as we have been unnecessarily victimised by depriving mobile internet services which is our basic need these days.

People from all walks of life in general and students, competitive exam aspirants and entrepreneurs in particular have been paralysed in many ways due to non-availability of mobile internet services in this peace-loving district," it said.

NSUC also conveyed that it is perturbed by the anomalies in the declaration of results of the 6th Semester Exam of BSc, BPES and BA (Honours and Regular) of Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) held in the month of July.

Owing to the prevailing situation in Manipur, students of Chandel were compelled to take the said exams at the DC'Office Complex, Chandel.

However, the results of the students of Chandel are being withheld till date while the results of their batch mates have been declared on September 6, it added, while cautioning that NSUC will not tolerate such discrimination as the delay in declaration of results in detrimental to their academic as well as professional career.

The Naga student body also pointed out that the UCO Bank, Chandel Branch is unable to render services to the people of Chandel due to shortage of staff compounded by linkage problem with their server.

"It is pertinent to mention that banking services have completely failed in Chandel district since only one SBI ATM booth is functional in the whole district.

It is unfathomable that only one ATM can render services to the whole district".

"You can imagine the plight of people of Chandel especially of those who have to come to the district headquarters from remote areas, just to find that banking services are unavailable," it decried.

NSUC opined that this kind of discrimination will further widen the gap between the people of hills and valley.

Hence, it is in the interest of the student community and the people of Manipur as a whole that the issues are addressed promptly, it asserted.
