City bus service and students' bus service launched

Imphal, October 09 2023:
With an aim to provide safe, reliable, affordable and sustainable public transport service for the student community and the public, transport minister Khashim Vashum launched the city bus service and students' bus service on Monday.
Speaking at the launch function held at Manipur State Transport (MST) complex, Moirangkhom, here, minister Khashim Vashum lauded the MST drivers, handymen and staff for their role and contribution during various contingency, crisis and emergency including the present crisis and said that their contributions cannot be forgotten by us.
The bus services launched on Monday will help the student community and the public to a great extent, he added.
He further stated that the students' bus service will provide the much-needed transport facility to all the students particularly those from faraway places.
He appealed to the drivers and handymen to be more careful while performing their duties.
The minister assured that the problems faced in providing timely wages to the drivers and handymen of MST will be looked into.
If the work is satisfactory, they could also be absorbed in the department, he added.
Minister Khashim Vashum also said that the chief minister has been apprised of the unpaid bills of MST in different departments of the state.
A written complaint has also been submitted to the chief minister for directing the departments concerned to pay off the unpaid bills at the earliest.
He appealed to the staff and officers of the transport department to serve the people with a sense of sacrifice.
The city bus service launched on Monday will cover routes from Imphal to Yairipok, Imphal to Bishnupur, Imphal to Lamlai and Imphal to Leishangthem.
The routes of the students' bus service include Imphal to Kakching lamkhai, Imphal to Moirang, Imphal to Lamlai and imphal to Mayang Imphal.
The function was also attended by transport director Dr Nivedita Lairenlakpam, director of education (s) Laishram Nandakumar and other top officials of the transport department.
Manipur State Transport Department's City Bus Service from Imphal to Thoubal was also flagged off at Leisangthem Khongmanung.
The launch programme organised by Leisangthem Chaokhat Lup at Leisangthem Khongmanung was attended by Lup's chief advisor & retired DI Irom Bijoy as chief guest and TMK English School, Leisangthem founder Irom Manglem as president, while social workers Leisangthem Bijoy and S Baleswor Sharma were present as guests of honour.
The bus fare will be Rs 50 per passenger and the service will start from Leisangthem and after passing through Chongtham Kona, Iramsiphai, Wangoi, Hiyangthang and it will end at Waheng Leikai Parking, Imphal.
