Imphal, October 09 2023:
Manipur State Council/Communist Party of India (MSC/CPI) termed that the act of restricting democratic rights by the government as dictatorial.
In a release, MSC/CPI secretary M Joykumar Luwang urged authorities concerned to remember that Manipur is a democratic state and they should read the constitutional rights of the people thoroughly.
Regarding the restriction imposed on organising rally, meeting and use of loud speaker by district magistrates in valley districts including Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Bishnupur and Kakching, he asserted that such infringement on rights given by the constitution is akin to rule of dictatorial government.
Such restrictions contradict the popular statement given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi while speaking in other nations that India is the largest democratic country in the world.
People simply want resolution of the conflict which is going on for more than five months now.
But instead of arresting those indulging in firing and burning of houses, the authorities concerned are resorting to repressive measures against the unarmed civilians.
So, orders violating the democratic rights of the people should be revoked, he demanded.
He also condemned the use of pellet guns on innocent students who were protesting against the killing of two students Phijam Hemanjit and Hijam Linthoingambi.
