Scrub Typhus claims one

Imphal, October 09 2023:
One village defence volunteer from Khundrakpam Mayai Leikai, Imphal East district has died of Scrub Typhus.
The deceased has been identified as Thongram Debabrata (42) s/o Th Debahari.
He is survived by his wife and two sons.
According to the local villagers, Debabrata was serving as an active village defence volunteer since the Kukis launched sustained, pre-planned attacks against Meiteis on May 3, 2023 .
He fell ill about 10 days back when he went to Sanjenlok on village defence duty where he was stung by something like a mosquito.
As Debabrata showed no sign of recovery, he was taken to Shija Hospital a few days back.
On the advice of the doctors, some clinical tests were done and it was confirmed that the village defence volunteer was infected by Scrub Typhus.
Debabrata's condition grew critical yesterday and he was taken inside the ICU.
As his condition became hopeless, Debabrata was put on a ventilator and sent home today.
Shortly after reaching home, the village defence volunteer expired, said the villagers.
