Chandel, October 09 2023:
Stating that imposition of mobile internet ban on peaceful zones like Chandel defies rationality, the Naga Students' Union Chandel (NSUC) has called for lifting of the ban.
A statement issued by SK Joseph, president, NSUC has said that the efforts put in by people of Chandel to maintain peace and tranquility in Chandel have gone in vain due to imposition of blanket mobile internet ban in the State.
It highlighted that people from all walks of life such as students, competitive exam aspirants and entrepreneurs have been left paralyzed in many ways due to non-availability of mobile internet services.
Pointing out other grievances of the people of Chandel, NSUC said that the results of the 6th semester exam of BSc, BPES and BA (Hons and Regular) of Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) held in July have been withheld till date for the students of Chandel while the results of their batchmates were declared in September 6.Terming it as a case of discrimination, NSUC said that it will not tolerate any delay in the declaration of results as it might prove to be detrimental to the academic and professional careers of the students.
Further, NSUC has also informed that the UCO Bank, Chandel Branch is unable to cater to the people of Chandel owing to shortage of staff compounded by linkage problem to server.
It further said that only one SBI ATM booth is functional in the entire district of Chandel and it cannot provide services to all the people of the district.
Thus, NSUC Chandel has urged Chief Minister N Biren Singh to address the grievances of the people of Chandel while stressing that "this kind of discrimination will further widen the gap between the people of the hills and the valley" .
