Imphal, August 21 2023:
Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has strongly condemned the joint media statement of Moreh-based Hill Tribal Council, Tamil Sangam, Manipuri Muslim Council and Gorkha Samaj, which claimed peaceful co-existence of all the communities in the border town, and termed the statement a 'communal' one.
According to a COCOMI statement, the joint media statement issued by Moreh-based community organisations seems to have singled out Meetei from different communities inhabiting in Moreh.
It was very unfortunate that the Moreh organisations claimed of having peaceful co-existence of all communities in the border town as if nothing had happened to the Meeteis.
In fact, ethnic cleansing of minority Meeteis from Moreh has been completed and it is well known throughout the world now but the non-Meetei Moreh based community organisations have totally sidelined it and claimed of having peaceful co-existence, the COCOMI said adding that there had been repeated attempts in the past as well to force out innocent Meeteis from Moreh with a hidden agenda.
The COCOMI further said that peaceful co-existence of all the communities inhabiting Moreh has been the main objective of the Meeteis and the community had been working hard to achieve this objective since the past many years.
If Moreh-based community organisations are sincere enough in bringing peace and co-existence in the border town, they should help towards return of displaced Meetei people of Moreh to their respective homes, the COCOMI said while maintaining that Meeteis had never done anything against the interest of any community inhabiting in Moreh.
Regarding the prevailing situation in Moreh and Churachandpur, where ethnic cleansing of minority Meeteis have been completed and Meetei houses razed to the ground, the COCOMI said it will never remain silent on the matter and will give fitting reply at appropriate time.
On the report of Kukis collecting Rs 10,000-15,000 as tax from trucks plying along national highways, the COCOMI strongly called for stopping collection of illegal tax and warned of initiating legal action, fittingly.
