NAMA delegates, others call on Governor

Retired Lt Gen Konsam Himalay along with Premjeet Sougrakpam and Hareena Sougrakpam of North America Manipuri Association (NAMA) called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan today.
A press release issued from Raj Bhavan said that the representatives of NAMA handed over a cheque of Rs six lakh to the Governor to provide relief items to the victims of the ethnic clash.
A memorandum was also submitted to the Governor, it said.
Saying that the Governor extended heartfelt gratitude to the team for their humanitarian initiative during this critical juncture, the statement continued that the noble gesture of Manipuri diaspora have shown their love and concern for the people of Manipur.

The Governor, while lauding their efforts, also urged all the people of Manipur to extend maximum assistance for the displaced families and informed that a separate Relief Bank Account has been opened by the Governor's Secretariat to provide assistance to the Internally Displaced People (IDPs) .
The relief bank account number is 42104850437 and IFSC Code: SBIN0000092 .
The Governor also said that peace and normalcy can be restored in Manipur only through concerted efforts from all sections of the society.
She also said that incidents of violence have declined considerably.
Benjamin Tao, chairman of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Senapati District Branch, Manipur and his team also called on the Governor this evening and apprised her of the current situation of IDPs taking refuge in different relief camps of hill districts.
The team informed the Governor that they visited different relief camps in Kangpokpi and Saikul areas to take stock of the ground situation and came across the problem of shortage of drinking water.
The team further informed that they have handed over hygiene kits and essential items to the IDPs and requested the Governor to provide a well-equipped ambulance for IDPs requiring medical facilities and a vehicle for transportation of relief items.
The Governor lauded the efforts of the Senapati, IRCS Branch in reaching out to the displaced people in the hill district and instructed them to check the educational facilities for children in the hill district.
The Governor, while acknowledging their concerns, assured that all requirements of the IRCS, Senapati branch for the IDPs will be extended through IRCS head branch and from her office as well.
The visiting team invited the Governor to grace the inauguration of its office building in Senapati.
