NAMA donates to Governor RF; IRCS seeks help for IDPs

Lt Gen (Retd) Konsam Himalay along with Premjeet Sougrakpam and Hareena Sougrakpam of North America Manipuri Association (NAMA) called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan on Monday during which the NAMA representatives handed over a cheque of Rs 6 lakh to the Governor to provide relief items for those affected by the ethnic clash alongside submitting a memorandum.
Receiving the donation, the Governor extended gratitude to the team for their humanitarian initiative towards reaching out to the affected people.
Lauding their efforts, she also urged all the people of Manipur to extend maximum assistance for the displaced families.
She further informed that separate bank account for relief was opened by the Governor's Secretariat for providing assistance to the Internally Displaced People (IDPs), and appealed to all to donate to the account number 42104850437 with 1FSC Code: SBIN0000092.The Governor also said that peace and normalcy can be restored in Manipur only through concerted efforts from all sections of the society.
Incidents of violence have reduced considerably, complete restoration of peace will be realised when all the affected people return to their respective homes, the Governor said.
Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Senapati district branch chairman Benjamin Tao along with his team also called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan on Monday evening and apprised her of the current situation of Internally Displaced People (IDPs) staying in different relief camps in the hill district.
The team informed the Governor that they had visited relief camps in Kangpokpi and Saikul areas to take stock of the ground situation and came across the problem of potable drinking water as the most common issue.
They handed over hygiene kits and essential items to the IDPs, the IRCS team said while urging the Governor to provide well-equipped ambulance for IDPs requiring medical facilities and vehicle for transportation of relief items.
The Governor lauded the efforts of IRCS Senapati in reaching out to the IDPs in hill district and advised the team to check the educational facilities for the displaced children in hill districts.
Acknowledging their concerns, she assured that all requirements of IRCS Senapati branch for the IDPs will be extended through IRCS head branch and from her office as well.
She also appealed to the team to be a peace mediator as they continue to extend their services for the affected people.
The visiting team also invited the Governor to attend the inauguration of its office building in Senapati district.
