Imphal, August 21 2023:
Stating that Raees Ahamed Tampak's representation of the Pangal community's voice is concerning as he seems to be aligned more with government interests than as a genuine member of the community's pressure group, Pangal Kanba Lup (PKL) Manipur has stated that unendorsed leaders should not be the representatives of the Pangal community.
In a release, PKL said that Raees Ahamed's self-proclaimed activism seems to have taken a self-centred turn, using the Pangal community's name for personal gains.
His current approach doesn't accurately reflect the sentiments of Meitei Pangal community during this crisis.
Asserting that Raees had contributed to divisive politics within the Pangal community in the past and now is exploiting the situation for popularity and personal advantage, PKL said that his behaviour, especially during these times of violence and difficulty is concerning.
"It's our hope that he refrains from misrepresenting our community again," he added.
Amidst the ongoing violence and the attempts by both sides to manipulate narratives, it's disheartening to witness our supposed community leaders engaging in divisive politics and power struggles, PKL said, adding "We need leaders who uphold integrity and unity, not those who seek individual benefits" .
Stating that their stance remains clear as a neutral community, PKL said that their primary concern is for involvement of Pangal community as responsible stakeholders in any government-led resolution.
"If one chooses to be submissive, it should be a personal choice and not a reflection of our community's values" .
The release also added that the "United Meitei Pangal Committee lacks the mandate to represent our community; it seems to be composed of self-serving individuals' who do not truly represent our community's interests" .
