Kangpokpi, August 21 2023:
Vaccine consignment of calendar immunisation programme in Kangpokpi district was reportedly intercepted on August 18 along National Highway-2 by unknown individuals at Sekmai village.
Consequently, Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) has lodged a complaint with Kangpokpi police station over the incident.
The vaccine, intended for children under 10 and pregnant women in Kangpokpi, was dispatched by the health and family welfare department.
CoTU, Sadar Hills expressed strong displeasure over the incident and blamed Meira Paibis for obstructing the transportation of not only the vaccine but also essential supplies for Kuki-Zo people in the hill districts.
Co-convenor of CoTU Mang-hekam highlighted healthcare inadequacies in the hills compared to the Imphal valley and stressed the need for aiding displaced Kuki-Zo people with medical supplies while highlighting that immunisation for children under 10 remains unattended due to lack of supplies.
He said that in such a volatile situation act of humanism must surpass all others as both the communities in conflict face same ramification of the war and such act of humanity is the only resort to rebuild the broken bridge between Meetei and Kuki.
