Imphal, October 22 2023:
Even though Kukis are Christians, they have destroyed and burnt down churches and houses of Meitei Christians and this fact is not known among mainland Indians, informed social activist and cyclist Rohan Philem.
Rohan Philem was addressing media persons at Trivandrum Press Club in Kerala to highlight the current crisis in Manipur on Saturday.
The press conference was organised by a group called Manipuris in Trivandrum comprising Meitei Muslims, Meitei Hindu and Meitei Sanamahi believers.
The press conference was attended by Pastors from different places in Trivandrum and members of Manipuris in Trivandrum.
During the press conference, Rohan Philem dwelled at length on the origin of the current crisis in Manipur and pointed out the false narrative and propaganda circulated by the Kuki community.
He highlighted how the Kukis, despite being Christians destroyed the churches and houses of Meitei Christians and this fact is not known by the mainland Indians.
Despite the fact that as many as 393 Hindu temples were burnt down by Kuki miscreants in addition to the Meitei Churches setting ablaze, none of these facts have been covered and carried as news in the national media, he lamented.
Revealing that none of the Kuki Christian Pastors whom he had approached were willing to have peace talk and restore peace and normalcy in Manipur, Rohan Philem said that whatever he is speaking is based on facts and figures and there are proof to support his claim.
He also appealed to the public not to believe in the false propaganda unleashed by the Kuki community.
While appreciating the donation made to Kuki Christians by Churches in Kerala through fund drives for humanitarian assistance by Keral Church community, Rohan Philem said that the funds sent for humanitarian assistance has been misused by the Kukis to purchase arms and ammunition.
He urged the Kerala Christians to donate in kind and not in cash henceforth.
Replying to a query, Rohan said that the root cause of the crisis in Manipur is poppy plantation and illegal immigration from across the border and this could be solved only through intervention by the state and central governments in the most sincere manner.
