Bishnupur, October 22 2023:
Manipur University Vice Chancellor Professor N Lokendra has highlighted the need for emerging scholars to record the oral history of forefathers and to preserve the already written history for posterity.
The MU VC made the remark as the chief guest at the release ceremony of Khoirom Mangang clan's "Yumdaba gi puya" organised by Khoirom Apokpa Thougal Lup at Thanga Khoirom.
Meanwhile Dr Chirom Rajketan, Associate Professor, Manipuri Department presented an introduction to the book.
Speaking further, Prof Lokendra asserted that out of 220+ communities living in North-East India, only three have consistently recorded and preserved their history.
These are the Meitei from Manipur, the Buranji from Assam and the Rasmala from Tripura.
As a part of the day's ceremony, shawls were presented to elders of the clan and a two-minute silence was observed to mourn the lives lost in the conflict.
