Relief camp volunteers sensitised on Geriatric care

A training programme on Geriatric Care for volunteers and officials of relief camps opened in Imphal West district was organised by the district administration of Imphal West at the Kombirei hall, Lamphelpat DC office complex on Saturday.
The inaugural function Of the training programme -organised under the theme "Basic Care for the Elderlies during This Crisis Period" was attended by Imphal West additional deputy commissioner K Jadumani Singh, RIMS psychiatry department head Prof Dr RK Lenin and Imphal West District Child Protection Officer Y Indramani as presidium members.
Speaking at the event, K Jadumani informed that the training programme aims to provide inputs to the volunteers and officials of relief camps on how to deal and take care of the elderly people.
The programme has also been initiated after the Supreme Court of India instructed the authority concerned to look after the need of elderly people staying in relief camps.
He also stated that citizens over 60 years of age need to be given extra care and support as they generally do not express their feelings and keep all grievances to themselves.
Dr RK Lenin also informed that of those staying in relief camps, elderly people suffer the most and they need love and care more than any essential items being provided.
