Sale, consumption of pork prohibited in Kakching

With pigs in a farm at Kakching Moirangthem Leikai confirmed to be positive for African swine fever infection, Kakching DC has declared the area as infected zone and imposed restriction on sale, consumption and transportation of pigs.
According to an order issued by Kakching deputy commissioner Somorjit Salam, the area covering a radius of 1km from the pig farm, which belongs to one Moirangthem Jugeshwar of Kakching Moirangthem Leikai, has been declared as "Infected zone" and another area covering 9 km radius from the pig farm as "Surveillance zone" .
As such, all kinds of sale and transportation of pig, pig meat, pig feeds and other related activities have been restricted and any individual found violating the order will have to face strict legal actions.
Meanwhile, Kakching Municipal Council and Kakching district veterinary officer Dr Shougaijam Brojendro and his team buried the carcasses of five dead and two ill pigs from Kakching Moirangthem Leikai at a safe place on Saturday.
Brojendro has also appealed to the public and pig farmers not to dispose the carcases of pigs in the open or in rivers and fields but to bury them at safe places.
He also urged all concerned to contact the veterinary department or the Kakching Municipal Council if there is any problem faced during disposal of carcasses.
